EU Platform Showcased at the Hydrogen Forum in Košice
The European Commission’s Hydrogen Mechanism was presented at the international H2SK Forum in Košice, where its practical implementation and role in the evolving hydrogen market were showcased. The EU project is now entering its next phase with the launch of the Biomethane Mechanism.
The EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform, developed and implemented with the participation of SFÉRA, was featured as part of the programme at the international H2SK Forum in Košice. The conference focused on the future of hydrogen, infrastructure development, and the integration of low-carbon gas markets.
The European Commission’s Hydrogen Mechanism was introduced by Clément Gerthoffert from DG ENER, who presented it as a tool for efficiently connecting hydrogen suppliers and buyers. His presentation was followed by Gábor Nagy, Analyst at SFÉRA, who explained how the platform operates in practice and shared insights gained during its implementation. He also highlighted the importance of transparent demand and supply aggregation in supporting the further development of the hydrogen market.
“This platform has the real potential to reduce uncertainty in the hydrogen market, and that is where we see its greatest added value,” said Gábor Nagy during his presentation.
The platform is positioning itself not only as a strategic EU initiative but also as a practical solution addressing the need for supply diversification and enhanced energy security. The first matching round of the Hydrogen Mechanism also confirmed growing market interest in new forms of cooperation.
The project is now entering its next stage. On 18 June 2026, the European Commission will open registrations for the Biomethane Mechanism, designed to support the development of the European biomethane market while contributing to decarbonisation, competitiveness, and security of supply. With the addition of biomethane alongside hydrogen and critical raw materials, the platform continues to expand as a key pillar of Europe's future energy landscape.
